When planning a getaway to the beautiful coastal paradise of Destin and Miramar Beach, Florida, one of the key decisions to make is where you’ll call home during your stay. Both condos and beach houses offer unique experiences, and choosing the right vacation rental can greatly impact the overall enjoyment of your trip. In this guide, we’ll help you weigh the pros and cons of condos and beach houses, providing insights to assist you in making the best choice for your beach vacation.

Condo Rentals

Spectacular Views:
Many condos in Destin offer stunning views of the Gulf of Mexico. Wake up to breathtaking sunrises and relax on your balcony as you watch the sun dip below the horizon. Be sure to check out the photos online before booking so you can see the location/view. Sunsets over the beach are the best during October/November.

Amenities: Condo complexes often come with a variety of amenities, such as pools, fitness centers, pickleball & tennis courts, and beach access. You can enjoy a range of facilities right at your doorstep.

Affordability: Condos can be more budget-friendly, making them an excellent option for smaller groups or travelers looking to save on accommodation costs.

Convenience: Parking typically is not a big issue at condos compared to some homes and oftentimes we hear how nice it is for each family to have their “own space” versus being in a big, shared home. You may like your family more than we do, but the thought of spending a week in one home together makes us cringe! P.S. We absolutely LOVE our families, but we also LOVE our freedom and privacy.

Limited Space: On the flip side, condos may have less space than beach houses, which can be a consideration for larger groups or those seeking more room to spread out. For those of you willing to spend a whole week together in one large space, you can absolutely save money by renting a home versus individual condos and having to pay those separate fees for each condo.

Noise: Shared walls can sometimes lead to noise from neighboring units, potentially affecting your peace and quiet.

Beach House Rentals

Beach houses offer a level of privacy that condos can’t match. You’ll have your own space and often a private beachfront or backyard. Look to see if you have a fenced-in backyard or how close the neighbors are by browsing the online photos.

Space: Beach houses are typically more spacious, making them ideal for families or larger groups. You’ll have room to relax, cook, and entertain. The kitchens can be bigger most often, but for the love of vacations, please make sure everyone has their own bathroom!

Family Gatherings: If you’re planning a family reunion or a group trip, a beach house can provide a cozy and communal atmosphere, allowing for a closer connection.

Cost: Beach houses can be pricier, especially for larger properties with more amenities. Make sure to take the total cost and divide it out amongst your group. You can also check to see if the Property Manager will allow you to split or break up payments if you don’t want to play bookie.

Maintenance: Bigger spaces mean more to clean/care for. Remember that you are renting another family’s second home; while they want you to have fun, they also want you to be respectful and help care for things as if you knew them.

For Couples
If you’re traveling as a couple and value a romantic setting with stunning views, a condo may be the perfect choice.

For Families or Groups
Larger families or groups traveling together may find that a beach house offers the space and privacy they need for a comfortable stay. Another option is to post in one of the local travel groups and ask for accommodations in the same building. Be specific on your budget, occupancy, and any other needs.

Budget-Conscious Travelers
Travelers on a budget might lean towards condos for their affordability and convenient locations. If you’re booking last minute, it never hurts to ask for a better price (but remain respectful of those who respond with a no) or look for a hole in the calendar to help fill a void for an owner.

"Traveling – it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller."

In the end, the right choice between a condo and a beach house comes down to your preferences, group size, and budget. No matter which option you select, Destin and Miramar Beach are sure to provide the perfect backdrop for a memorable beach vacation. So, weigh the pros and cons, consider your travel companions, and get ready for an unforgettable stay along the stunning Emerald Coast.
